Big West League Rules

League Enrollment

Any new organization seeking membership to the Big West League will need to appear at the Director's Meeting in January.

Format for Membership Discussion:

  1. All new organization make their case for joining the league.
  2. Current members may ask questions of the new organizations.
  3. Once all new organizations have made their case, they will be asked to leave the room.
  4. Current members will vote on membership.
  5. Approved members may join for the rest of the meeting.

League Entry Fees

Entry to the league is $550 per team.

Each team will get

  • Paid entry fee for the State Qualifier Tournament
  • Paid gate fee for the State Qualifier Tournament
  • Teams winning at least one (1) game (not by forfeit) will advance to state.
  • State tournament entry fees are paid by the league.

State Tournament gate fees are not paid for by the league. Each team will need to bring a check made out to the state tournament host for $100.

LEAGUE RULES – ALL AGE GROUPS

  • The first game will start at 6:15PM. All games are 7 innings or 65 minutes, whichever occurs first.
  • League play games can end in a tie. If the score is tied after 65 minutes in the second game only, teams may play apply the tie breaker rule if conditions (light, etc.) permit.
  • Host team is responsible for entering scores within 24 hours of completion of the game. Host team is considered home team for the first game. The visiting team will be the home team for the second game.
  • Teams must notify opponent a minimum of 2 hours before game time if a rescheduling or cancellation is required, or the game will be recorded as a forfeit.
  • Games are not official until after 3 innings, or 2 1/2 if the home team is ahead.
  • Courtesy runners may be used for the pitcher, catcher or an injured player. Courtesy runners are the last out, or the last player due to bat this inning if no outs.
  • The host team will be the home team in the first game and visiting team in the second game. (Ammended 4/11/2017)

LEAGUE RULES – 10U AND 12U SPECIFIC

  • Bat the bench.
  • 5 runs per inning, EXCEPT 12-Under A.

LEAGUE RULES – 14U, 16U, AND 18U SPECIFIC

  • Courtesy runners may be used for the pitcher, catcher or an injured player.
  • Home team determined by coin flip at pre-game meeting.
  • Bat the bench in league games.
  • For 14U/16U/18U qualifier each team will have the option to declare before the start of the game to bat 9, DP/Flex, or the Roster.

QUALIFYING FOR STATE

  • All A teams will qualifier for state independent of their record at the Qualifier.
  • B and C teams will need to win one (1) game to advance to state. Wins by forfeit will not count.

NIGHTS OF PLAY PER AGE GROUP

  • 10U - Tuesday
  • 12U - Monday/Wednesday
  • 14U - Tuesday/Thursday
  • 16U - Monday/Wednesday

REGISTRATIONS

You will play post season in the class of the league that you played in.

League Tournament Rules

We will seed the League Tournament by the following criteria:

  1. Highest Win/Loss Percentage
  2. Lowest Runs Allowed Average Per Game
  3. Highest Run Differential
  4. Coin Flip

State Rules

  1. Each team will be responsible for giving a $100 check to the tournament host prior to your first game.
     
  2. The home team in each game is determined by a coin flip at the umpire/coach meeting prior to the start of the game.
     
  3. The run rule for all ages is 15 runs ahead after 3 innings, 12 runs ahead after 4 innings, 8 runs after 5 innings.
     
  4. Games that are tied after the time limit will apply the tie breaker rule. Starting with the top of the inning, and each half inning thereafter, the offensive team shall begin its turn at bat with the player who is scheduled to bat last in that respective half inning being placed on second base.
     
  5. Umpires and the UIC will handle rules questions.
     
  6. The tournament director will handle eligibility protests.
     
  7. Refer to the USA Softball rule book for all other rules.
